Peter James: Dead Man's Grip. Roy Grace (7th) |
Lene Kaaberbol: The Boy in the Suitcase. It's really hard to enjoy this novel when the basic plot premise is so impossible to accept. Furthermore, none of the characters are all that engaging, there is little suspense, and the multiple storylines converge in a predictable, almost passive manner. |
Faye Kellerman: Gun Games. Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus (20th) |
Raymond Khoury: The Devil's Elixir. Sean Reilly and Tess Chaykin (5th) |
Dean Koontz: 77 Shadow Street. |
Ed Kovacs: Storm Damage. Cliff St. James (1st) This fine, crisply written mystery introduces a strongly drawn character, an ex-NOPD detective now working as a private investigator. The post-Katrina timeline is a little bit contrived, as the murder investigation storyline is solid enough without the distraction of descriptions of "New Normal" life in New Orleans. |
Elmore Leonard: Raylan. Raylan Givens |
John Lescroart: The Hunter. Wyatt Hunt, Hunt Club (3rd) |
Barry Maitland: Chelsea Mansions. Brock and Kolla (11th) This outstanding entry in the series features a large cast of characters, which are vividly portrayed in an environment of interwoven plotlines that can be tricky to follow but the end result is well worth the effort. |
